  7.     Hath not DUSTIN HOFFMAN senses, affections, passions? He
  8. hath. And he hath taken them all together onto a London stage
  9. for a nearly sold-out summer run in The Merchant of Venice, his
  10. first go at Shakespeare since drama school. In applying to work
  11. with British director PETER HALL, Hoffman, 51, first asked to
  12. play Hamlet. Sorry, Dustin, he was told, you're too old. The
  13. role of Shylock, however, is a challenge for the two-time Oscar
  14. winner, a consummate perfectionist. "I'll probably find the key
  15. to this performance three months after we close," he admits.
